Gallery Breaking News - (2) $1,000 Scholarships Awarded

The Bluff Country Artists Gallery is pleased to announce we have awarded (2) $1,000 scholarships on Saturday June 27th at the gallery. We had seven applications who either were graduating high school seniors this past year or are already enrolled in colleges and majoring in art. The applicants could be from Houston or Fillmore counties this year.

We are pleased to announce that Garrett Cross of Spring Grove and Clinton Grabhorn of Brownsville as the recipients of the scholarships. Each applicant did a super good job of preparing their work of art which was required to be a visual art piece that would incorporate up to three of five words chosen by our board which were:

Unexpected
Hope
Now
Joy
Rhythm

The members of our board of directors were inspired by the work they created, their talents, ambitions and how they expressed their passion for their work from each of our budding artists. We applaud each of them for their efforts. Please visit the gallery and view the great work that was created. Thanks to our membership support and our customers for the help in funding the scholarships.

The gallery will be hosting a live art auction during UffDa Fest on October 3rd in Spring Grove and we suggested to all of the applicants that they create up to three works of art, bring to the gallery and have them auctioned off with all proceeds going to the student.

July 1st through July 31st - One-Person Art Show - "Door's Open" - Artist Kay Cross

Bluff Country Artists Gallery is proud to announce it's first one-person art show. Entitled "Door's Open" it is a show dealing with the harsh realities of mental illness and its consequences. The healing art quilts of Spring Grove's own Kay M. Capps Cross will be shown during the month of July 2009.

Now a published author and nationally known quilting teacher, Kay has journeyed far from that struggling beginning quilter. The quilts born during the healing process are the subject of an upcoming show at Bluff Country Artists Gallery in Spring Grove, Minnesota.

The pieces included in the show are not the attractive commercial quilts Kay creates for her business Cross Cuts. These are works dealing with the devastating consequences of unfortunate events and struggles with mental illness. Raw and powerful, this is the first complete showing of Kays art works entitled "Door's Open".

Several events celebrating this exhibit are being planned by the gallery.

On Wednesday, July 1, the gallery will host healthcare professionals to a preview of the show along with speaker Karen Misseldine, an art therapist from Decorah, Iowa.

On Thursday, July 2 the exhibit will open for Gallery members.

The Grand Opening is scheduled for Monday, July 6, from 7pm-9pm. The artist will be present for all three events. Please join us at the Gallery for this inaugural one person show. For more details here to go to the events page.
